So instead of going directly through Paris to get to Benin, my parents and I decided to suffer a little bit and stay in Paris for four days (you know, just to get used to the time difference and everything) : ) In case you are curious about some of the interesting events we have witnessed in the past three days, here are some of the fun stories:
*The Metro (Subway) station is crazy! We’ve witnessed a pick-pocket get caught and every once in a while a performer, always looking for a tip, will end up on our train. Thus far we have gotten the pleasure of hearing an accordion player & seeing a puppet show.
*On day one, my mom, dad and I decided to enjoy a nice boat tour down the Seine River. Little did we know that we would catch ourselves staring at 6 french teenage boys mooning us about halfway into the tour!
*On day two we rented bikes for about 2 hours and rode up and down the canal behind our hotel. There was a bike path the whole way so we didn’t have to worry about getting run over. One exciting thing that happened, which you don’t see very often, was a guy on a bike got pulled over by a cop because he peddled through a red light. Good thing we followed the traffic rules…
*Today was lots of fun! We started off eating at a local restaraunt (I accidentally ordered a dessert for breakfast), then hopped on a double decker tour bus, and ate an UNREAL picnic lunch on the side of the Seine River while looking straight across to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. Immediately after, we entered Notre-Dame and got blocked in because a mass was going to begin…but we ended up seeing the processional of priests which was really cool.
Hope you enjoyed the first blog, I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I head off to Africa by myself this coming Sunday!
